Charles Peckham Day who is known professionally as Charlie Day was born on February 9, 1976. He is an American actor, screenwriter, producer, director, and musician. He got into people’s consciousness with his role in the movie It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia which earned him a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series nomination in 2011.

Since then he has appeared in movies such as Horrible Bosses (2011) and its sequel in 2014, Monsters University (2013), as well as The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019).

Charlie Day, the younger child of Mary (nee Peckham) was born in The Bronx, in New York City but he spent most of his growing up years in Middletown, Rhode Island. He was the younger of two children with an older sister, Alice.

His father, Dr. Thomas Charles Day, is a retired professor of music history at Salve Regina University, Newport while his mother is a piano teacher at The Pennfield School in Portsmouth. His father is of Irish and Italian descent while his mother is of English, Irish, and Welsh ancestry.

Day had his early education at Pennfield School and he graduated from Portsmouth Abbey School, all in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He majored in Art History in 1998 from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts. He was later awarded an honorary Ph.D. as well as gave the commencement speech for the school’s graduating class in 2014.

While he was in school, he was an active member of Onstage, which was Merrimack’s student theater organization. At that time, he was roommates with Jimmi Simpson, who would later appear with him in the movie, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

After his graduation from Merrimack College, the young Day appeared in small television roles as well as doing voiceovers for Independent Film Channel. He also waited tables and answered calls for a telethon to supplement his income.

How He Got Into Acting

While Day was in college, he was active in the training projects held at the Williamstown Theatre Festival during his summer breaks. There he got an opportunity to perform the lead role in the play, Dead End, at the Huntington Theatre in Boston.

In 2010, he had a role in the movie Going the Distance which he played alongside Justin Long and Drew Barrymore. Alongside Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, and Jamie Foxx, he acted in the 2011 movie Horrible Bosses produced by New Line Cinema.

In 2013, he appeared in Pacific Rim, a Guillermo del Toro film as well as did a voiceover for Art, a character in the Pixar animated film Monsters University. Together with Ice Cube, he starred in the movie Fist Fight, where he played Andy Campbell, a high school teacher. He reprised his role in Pacific Rim in the movie’s sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising
