2Face Idibia, Tuface or simply 2Baba as he is fondly called was born on the 18th of September, 1975, as Innocent Ujah Idibia, in Jos, Nigeria to a not so popular family. He is an Idoma from Okpokun LGA, in the Southern part of Benue State of Nigeria.

2Face had his basic education at Mount Saint Gabriel Secondary school in Makurdi of Benue State; and later proceeded to the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT); for his National Diploma in Business Administration and Management.

While studying in IMT he had the opportunity to perform at the school organized shows and parties; and as well as going to other regional and neighboring schools like the University of Nigeria; and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology.

However, after he juggled with his music career and his studies for several years he eventually gave up on his education career and focused on his music career instead and then officially began to compose and sing to the delight of the students by performing at Jingles at the GB Fans Club in Enugu State Broadcasting Services in 1996.

No doubt, 2Face has been able to achieve a great deal from his music career and as well as bringing about a revolution in Nigerian music and getting it accepted all over the world.

He disclosed that what prompted his adoption of the name 2Face in 1996, as “trying to separate his private life from his business life”.


2face Idibia biography would be incomplete without a mention of his successful music career. He began his professional music career fully after he dropped out of school; he moved over to Lagos and started off performing with Blackface whom he met while at IMT. He teamed up with Faze (Chibuzor Orji) and Blackface (Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo) and formed the band ‘Plantashun Boiz’ that became the best group back in the days and were making big money where many Nigerian musicians were trying to get recognition and relevance.

In 2000, Plantashun Boiz released their first album titled ‘Body and Soul’ and their second album titled ‘Sold Out’ in 2003 under Nelson Brown owned record label ‘Dove Records’. These two albums were successful as the songs received massive airplay on radio and TV stations across the country.

Sadly, the Plantashun Boiz parted ways in 2004 and started to pursue their own solo careers. The break up was a bitter one though the fans pleaded for their return.

Eventually, in 2007, the trio came back but only to do a record of their third album titled ‘Plan B’ and then after, the group went into extinction.

Owning to the disengagement of the group, 2Face launched his own first solo album titled ‘Face 2 Face’ in 2004 which established him as a viable solo artiste to reckon with. He released his second studio album in 2006 titled ‘Grass 2 Grace’ which contained hits tracks like ‘One Love’ ‘True Love’ ‘4 Instance’ and many others.

In the same year 2006, he founded his own record label ‘Hypertek Digital’ after leaving Kennis Music and his hit song titled ‘African Queen’ gave him the international recognition when the song ‘African Queen’ was used as the soundtrack for the movie ‘Phat Girlz’ produced by Queen Latifah.

He also released another album titled ‘The Unstoppable’ and equally featured in a single with RKelly and Prince Lee titled ‘Hands across the World’. Other albums 2Face has released so far includes, ‘Away & Beyond’ ‘The Ascension’ ‘The Unstoppable International Edition’.

He also was one of the judges on the show ‘The Voice Nigeria’ which had also Timi Dakolo, Patoranking and Waje on board as judges.

Interestingly, also, 2Baba also started an NGO he called ‘2Face Idibia Reach out Foundation’ to give ‘service to humanity’.

2Baba has so many endorsement deals to his credit which includes, Guinness, Nigerian Breweries, Globacom, Hennessey and many more. He also was made the brand ambassador for National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC)
