Zidane Steps Down As Real Madrid’s Coach

Zinedine Zidane has announced a surprise resignation as coach of current European Champions, Real Madrid. His announcement is coming barely 5 days after winning his third consecutive Champions league trophy with Real Madrid.

The 45 year old Frenchman announced his stepping down during a media conference in Madrid. He called in just 90 minutes before to announce his decision not to continue at Madrid next season.

He took over the reins at Madrid in January 2016 after the departure of Rafael Benitez; and in the two and half years as Madrid’s coach has won a phenomenal nine trophies; and lost only 16 of a total 149 games in charge. Zidane made history as the first coach in the world to win three consecutive Champions League trophies.

“This is the right moment for everyone,” he said. “It might seem strange, but it had to be done for the good of everyone, the players, the club, and myself.

“This team must keep winning, and it needs a change after three years, another voice, and another method of working.”

Zidane was also a phenomenal player in his playing days; winning several trophies and also the Champions League with Madrid in addition to FIFA’s Ballon d’Or.

He also had lots of success at the International front with the French National team, winning the FIFA World Cup and Euro Cup.

The Frenchman had previously been tipped as a future manager of the French national team; an offer he is yet to express interest in. He disclosed that he isn’t moving to another team and has also failed to disclose his future plans or next projects.

We only hope that his future career plans will be linked to the beautiful game; as he has proven his dexterity and Midas touch in both playing and managerial capacity; and has become a phenomenal asset to the football world.
