Xavi & Pique Suspend Retirement To Play For Catalonia Against Venezuela

Catalonia Versus Venezuela friendly match scheduled for March 25,  promises to be an exciting and entertaining event.

Barcelona FC legends, Xavi Hernandez and Gerard Pique have been named in the line up for Catalonia. Both retired football superstars are set to come out of international retirement to line up behind Catalonia.

Xavi who retired from international football in August 2014 is still active professionally, plying his trade in Qatar with Al Sadd.

Pique who is set to make his tenth appearance for Catalonia, also announced his retirement from international football at the age of 31 after the 2018 World Cup.

Catalonia who have been seeking independence from Spain are not officially registered by UEFA or FIFA but are free to take part in friendly matches.

This match however has been controversial in Spain with Rayo Vallecano, Real Valladolid and Huesca refusing to allow any of their players to line up for Catalonia. Watford is also refusing to release Gerard Deulofeu for the friendly match.

According to Catalonia manager, Gerard Lopez , he  understands the clubs’ decisions.
