Modric, Mbappe, Kane, Griezmann And Others Win FIFA Adidas Awards At World Cup

The French football team have just won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia after defeating Croatia 4-2 in a tough and highly competitive match, but these weren’t the only winners. Other winners include Luka Modric , the Croatian midfielder who won the FIFA Adidas Golden Ball award for his exploits with his team and guiding them against all odds to the finals.

Thibaut Courtois, the Belgian Keeper, whose country came third in the competition won the FIFA Adidas Golden Glove award. FIFA credited Courtois for playing a huge role in Belgium’s third place win at the World Cup. The imposing goal keeper effectively utilized his large frame and exceptional reflexes to the advantage of his team on several occasions. He conceded only a goal from France, the eventual champions in the semi-finals of the competition.

Kylian Mbappe, the French teenage star, won the FIFA Adidas Young Player award. The teenage prodigy who is now being compared to legendary Pele for scoring a brace at his first World Cup and as a teenager lived up to expectations. He has become the youngest scorer of a brace in a World Cup since Pele in 1958 and he was also instrumental to France’s victory by scoring the last goal for Les Bleus.

Eden Hazard of Belgium won the FIFA Adidas Silver Ball award. Belgium has a very effective attacking force in the tournament scoring a record 16 goals, thanks to Hazard who wrecked defenses of opposing teams with his speed and skills on the ball. He scored a total of three goals and provided two assists and was the main architect of Belgium’s triumph over England in the third place match.

Antoine Griezmann, the French playmaker went home with the FIFA Adidas Bronze Ball and the Adidas Silver Boot. Griezmann who plies his trade at Atletico Madrid played an important role in the champions triumph scoring four goals in addition to setting up another two.“My role has changed. If I score that’s great, but it’s not the most important thing,” said the left-footed striker before the Final, where his dead-ball skills helped Les Bleus win the day.

Harry kane, the English Captain went home with the FIFA Adidas Golden Boot Award for his record six goals in the tournament. He reaffirmed his reputation as one of the best strikers currently available in the game by helping England to their best finish, since Italy 1990. Kane who plays for Tottenham accumulated goals early in the tournament by scoring a double against Tunisia and a hat-trick against Panama, capping it off with a spot kick against Colombia in round 16.

Romelu Lukaku of Belgium went home with the FIFA Adidas Bronze Ball for his tally of four goals in the competition. He scored a brace in their opening game against Panama and another goal against Tunisia during the group stages of the competition.

Spain went home with the FIFA Adidas Fair Play Trophy despite being sent home by hosts Russia in the Round of 16.Despite a disappointing tournament, Spain behaved themselves well on the pitch picking up just two yellow cards in four matches and committing very few fouls.
