Liverpool-native Richard Quest is a journalist and non-practicing barrister who currently work as a newscaster for CNN International. He hosts ‘Quest Means Business, a five-times-weekly business program and also fronts the CNN programs ‘Quest’s World of Wonder’, ‘Business Traveler’, and ‘The Express’.

Richard Austin Quest was born on 9 March 1962 in Liverpool, Lancashire (now Merseyside), England. He was partly brought up in Liverpool by his Jewish practicing family.

Quest received his education at the state comprehensive Roundhay School located in Leeds, followed by Airedale & Wharfedale College & the University of Leeds, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws in 1983.

Quest spent the 1983–1984 academic session in the United States attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he worked as the news director of WRVU.

In 1985, Richard Quest became a trainee reporter at the BBC, joined its financial section in 1987, and moved to New York City in 1989 to assume the responsibilities of BBC’s North American business correspondent.

He later worked for the BBC from America as part of its   BBC News 24 channel. He was the business correspondent covering and discussing the world stock market in a usual segment titled ‘World Business Report’ regularly aired between 2:00am and 3:00am, a program that he anchored alongside Paddy O’Connell.

Not only that, but he was also an irregular presenter on the BBC’s morning Business Breakfast program. In 2001 Richard Quest joined CNN for the commencement of Business International.

Since he became a member of the organization, Quest has covered an array of different events for the network, amongst others an investigation of the United State elections as American Quest and the launch of the circulation of euro coins and banknotes on 1 January 2002 and the final official commercial flight of Concorde.

He has also spearheaded CNN’s coverage of a number of events relating to the British Royal Family. In 2006, he turned down an invitation to join Al Jazeera English news network, the English language version of al-Jazeera, on grounds that his religion and sexual orientation might not be suitable.

On 9 April 2015, he was announced as the anchor of the ABC game program ‘500 Questions’. He was replaced for the show’s second season by Dan Harris.

On 8 June 2015, he appeared as a competitor along with his romantic partner Brooke Baldwin, on ‘The CNN Quiz Show: The Seventies Edition’   produced by Eimear Crombie, playing for StandUp for Kids.

Amongst other things, Quest is an Aviation Correspondent for CNN, and expansively covered the account of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 that disappeared on 8 March 2014.

He later wrote a book titled ‘The Vanishing of Flight MH370: The True Story of the Hunt for the Missing Malaysian Plane’, and it was published on 8 March 2016 by Penguin Random House.

Richard Quest is Jewish. He is also an openly known gay man who likes to attend events with his partner Brooke Baldwin.

In 2008, the journalist was arrested in Central Park in New York City with drugs in his pocket. He admitted having a controlled substance known as crystal methamphetamine on him.

In April 2020, he tested positive for COVID-19  and later recovered after undergoing treatment.

Whenever he has a break from work, Richard would spend his free time with his partner, visiting cool places and sharing moments together.
