Pat Sajak was born Patrick Leonard Sajdak in Chicago, Illinois, United States, on the 26th of October, 1946, to Joyce Helen and Leonard Anthony Sajak. In his young days, pat won WLS radio’s Dick Biondi which allowed him feature as a guest teenage deejay. He applied for a job and was hired by a local radio station where he immediately began to work. In 1968, he joined the US Army during the Vietnam War and served as a deejay for the Armed Forces radio. During the 1970’s he worked as a deejay for the Murray, Kentucky, radio station for a one year period. About the same time, he had started to deejay for the 50,000 watt WSM in Nashville. Sajak was brought to the screen by WSM-TV initially as a voice over artist. He soon began working as the anchor of NBC’s Today Show, albeit for just five minutes.
In 1977, Patrick received an offer from KNBC-TV to become a full-time weatherman for their station in Los Angeles. Four years later, he experienced a fortunate turn around when he was offered the post of hosting the hit television game show “Wheels of Fortune” by Merv Griffin in 1981. Initially, he encountered a stumbling block in the form of Fred Silverman, who did not want to hire him. However, Fred was eventually removed as the network’s executive, and Sajak took over as the host. He hosted both the syndicated and daytime version from 1983 to 1989. At present, he still hosts the syndicated version.
