NKEM OWOH BIOGRAPHY
He completed his primary and secondary education in Nsukka, Enugu state. He headed to the University of Ilorin and completed his tertiary education at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) where he got a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He worked in WACO Engineering after his youth service but was later dismissed after a year. Nkem Owoh has always had a passion for acting even from a young age.

Nkem Owoh biography cannot be complete without a look at his successful acting career. His being laid off from employment turned out to be a good thing as it opened the way for him to be involved in Radio and Television Productions.
He started as a writer for the network productions of the Nigerian Television Authority(NTA) where he was contracted to handle the subtitling of the very remarkable Igbo language home video titled ‘Living in Bondage.’ He later got an acting offer almost a year after the release of Living in Bondage from the producers of another Igbo home video titled ‘Circle of Doom’ to star as a custom officer. He was also asked to reconstruct the script though unofficially. His appearance in the home video ‘Circle of Doom’ announced his presence on board in the Nigerian movie industry; this got other producers on his side not only for his acting ability but also for sense of good scripting. His third ever movie, ‘Taboo’ was praised as a success to his credit.
His major break in acting came when he got a role in the screen adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s novel, ‘Things Fall Apart’ which was done in 1987 with 50 episodes which spanned for about 50 minutes each and aired on NTA. He later starred as a supporting role in ‘Ukwa’ 1 & 2 together with Sam Loco Efe and Patience Ozokwor in 1995.
His most prominent act was when he starred as Osuofia in the movie ‘Osuofia in London’ in 2003 which won him the ‘Best Actor in a Lead Role’ award in the African Movie Academy Awards – the AMMAs in 2008.
Nkem Owoh has starred in more than 200 movies such as ‘Things Fall Apart’ in 1987, ‘Ukwa’ in 2000, ‘Onye-Eze’ also in year 2000, ‘Fake Doctor’ in 2001, ‘Police Officer’ in 2002, etc.
He is also known for his song titled ‘I go chop your money’ talking about advance fee fraud, the song was featured in the film, ‘The Master’ in which he starred as a fraudster. The song was later banned by the EFCC – Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission.
When he is met outside the screen, he has a completely different personality; he only shares his sense of humor with the characters that he interprets on the screen. He is very much interested in the area of producing and directing, “They say there is no retirement age in acting. But when I pull out of active acting, I intend to concentrate on producing and directing. Those are my real area of interest”, he says.
Nkem Owoh has been accused various times by producers for charging excessively for appearance in movies. He was banned in 2004 for making unfair demands by the Association of Movie Makers and Producers. He is also among the list of the various Nigerian Artists who were banned from acting due to their expensive and difficult contract demands.
