Music producer threatens to sue EFCC for parading him as ‘Yahoo boy’

Mr Nasiru Ali popularly known as “Kozzographa” who is an An Abuja-based music producer, on Sunday threatened to sue the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for wrongly calling him a fraudster (Yahoo boy).

It was reported by The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Ali was among 10 suspected internet fraudsters paraded on May 17 by EFCC operatives.

The anti-graft agency personnel raided the suspect’s residence at Favour Land Estate, Life Camp in Abuja

According to the anti-graft agency, they were arrested following a tip-off by an anonymous source.

EFCC said that the suspects would be charged and arraigned before the court as soon as investigations were concluded.

But Ali, On May 31, in a petition to the anti-graft agency Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, demanded a compensation of N100 million and an unreserved apology for arresting him wrongly and giving a wrong information about him to the public.

Through his lawyer, Mr Pelumi Olajengbensi, the musician said that he would drag EFCC to court for refusing to retract the negative publications about him after a seven-day ultimatum.

“He lost a contract of five million naira with United Global Resolve for Peace (UNGREP), which he had been interviewed for and hitherto offered unequivocally because the contractors became disturbed and concerned by the publication thus doubtful of his reputation.

Ali’s lawyer further stated that the artiste has been ostracized by his fellow artiste and associates as well as senior associated who normally refer to him for jobs in the past which has resulted to lack of trust and reference.

He went on to talk about how the artiste has been bombarded with calls from family and friends where they were expressing disappointment over his reputation and how they also indicate their intention to cut all connection with him.

Also, Ali’s lawyer said that the artiste’s relationship with his intended life partner has been called off due to the negative publicity generated from the unlawful arrest and most especially the false publication from EFCC on the same matter.

finally, the lawyer stated in the petition that the false publication has also led to close clients taking off their jobs off him and taking them to other persons thereby amounting to great level of loss which hs led to indebtedness in some cases.

In the petition, the artiste’s lawyer also claimed that his health and psychology had been affected following the Gestapo way he was arrested and assaulted by the commission operatives.

The lawyer further stated that the men that raided his home were dressed in black with no means of identifying them as officers of the anti-graft agency.
