Linda Ronstadt was born on July 15th, 1946 in Tucson, Arizona. She is an American musician (although now retired) who was well known for her rare talent of making music over a range of different genres including Latin, rock, opera and country. Her other professions include record producer, actress, songwriter, and an activist.
She was born Linda Maria Ronstadt and as the third child of four children to Ruth Mary and Gilbert Ronstadt; who were both a home keeper and machinery merchant respectively.

Linda Ronstadt’s early life was tradition and music-filled. This is believed to have greatly influenced her style and choices of music later in her career. While growing up, her entire family sang Mexican music which she had to listen to. She says that all the songs in her record were influenced by the songs she heard her family sing in their living room while she was growing up, as well as the songs she heard from radio stations at home and in the neighborhood.
Her style as an up and coming singer was influenced by musicians like Edith Piaf, Hank Williams and Lola Beltran.
Her professional career kicked off at the age of 14 when she and two of her siblings formed a folk group of three which they called The Three Ronstadts. Together as a group of young singers, they played at fraternity houses, coffeehouses and other small venues where they could. The trio recorded themselves in a studio in Tucson, using the moniker “New Union Ramblers”. Soon, they began to make folk music and also rock ‘n’ roll.
At 18, Ronstadt permanently formed a band with her friend Bobby Kimmel in Los Angeles. The duo together with guitarist and songwriter Kenny Edwards signed to Capitol in 1966 under the stage name “the Stone Poneys”.
The Stone Poneys released hit albums and singles which topped charts until Linda decided to go solo in 1969, releasing solo albums, touring, and collaborating with other musicians even though at that time her contact was still tied to Capitol.

Linda Ronstadt is notable for having bagged a host of award nominations, while going on to actually win a host of them. During her days as talented singer, her talent earned her a lot of fame which was also accompanied by series of awards which included 3 American music awards, 1 ALMA award, 1 EMMY award, 2 awards of academy of country music and ten Grammy awards. She has also earned various other nominations for many other awards such as the Golden Globe and Tony Awards. Many of Linda’s albums are gold, platinum, and multi-platinum certified both in the United States of America and internationally.
In 2011 the Latin Recording Academy presented her with an award for Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement, while in 2016 The Recording Academy awarded her the Latin Grammy lifetime achievement award.
Her induction into the rock and roll hall of fame took place in April 2014. Three months later, she received the National Medal of Arts and Humanities award.
