Falz is a successful Nigerian Artiste known for his funny Yoruba accent in his humorous short social media clips, his unique style of music and his dress sense – his funny glasses and how he parts his hair.
His Early Life
Folarin Falana a.k.a. Falz the Bahd guy, the Nigerian rapper, actor, and songwriter was born on October 27, 1990, in Mushin, Lagos to his parents, Femi and Funmi Falana, who are well-known lawyers. He is a 2nd child having only two sisters.
He completed his primary education at St. Leo’s Catholic Primary School, Ikeja, Lagos state, his secondary education at Olashore International School, Osun state, then went on to graduate with LLB honors degree from the University of Reading, UK. He was later called to bar after going to the Nigerian Law School, Abuja in February 2012.
The Start of His Career
Falz took music as a hobby while in secondary school, he formed a music group with a friend – who wrote rap lyrics – called ‘the schoolboys,’ he released a compilation of some of his recording into a mixtape which he titled ‘Shakara: the mixtape’ after which he released five singles.
Falz professional career started in 2009. On the 30th of May, 2014, Falz released his debut studio album which he titled ‘Wazup Guy,’ he also went on to release ‘high class’ and ‘currency’ which made him known in the Nigerian Music Industry. Falz was ranked No. 9 on the ‘notjuskOk’ list of ’10 Most Gifted Rappers in Nigeria 2014′, they stated “Falz’s ability to maintain a thought and get his point across in 16 bars while switching accents, infusing funny punch lines and delivering all of it in a way that makes the listener follow along is nothing short of impressive”.
The song ‘marry me’ which he featured Poe, and Yemi Alade brought him to the limelight, it brought him the recognition as one of Nigerian upcoming rap artiste, it also got him a nomination in the ‘Best Collaboration of the Year’ category at the 2015 Nigerian Entertainment Awards. He has received nominations for the ‘Best Rap Act of the Year’ and the ‘Best New Act to Watch’ categories.
He released another single titled ‘Ello Bae’ on the 31st of January 2015 which gained him a nomination as the ‘Best Street Hop Artiste of the Year’ category at the Headies 2015. His second studio album, ‘stories that touch’ was released on 17, November 2015. He worked with Simi on two singles titled ‘Jamb Question’ and ‘Soldier’ before later collaborating with her to release a seven tracks EP titled ‘Chemistry’ produced by Sess. On may, 2015, he released a music video which he titled ‘This is Nigeria’ which was inspired by Childish Gambino’s ‘This is America’, this music video emphasized on Nigerian issues including Bribery and Corruption.
When asked, Falz describes his music as ‘Wazzup Music’ which he says is the merge of humorous lyrics with modern contemporary Hip-hop in faux Yoruba accent.
His stage name, ‘Falz the Bahd Guy’ is derived from his last name ‘Falana’ and the acronym BAHD- Brilliant and Highly Distinct- Guy. He owns at this moment an independent record label called “Bahd Guys Record.”
Falz has insisted that acting is only one out of his passions. When he was asked if he still had a passion for law, he responded saying “I used to go to court, but my schedule as an entertainer is hectic, so I’m no longer able to practice. I may still look into that in the future”.
Falz starred as Segun in the series ‘Jenifa’s Dairy’ and also in ‘Tinsel’ as Kayode Beko-Williams.

- In 2016, he won the ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Movie/Series at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for his role as Segun in Funke Akindele’s TV series, ‘Jenifa’s Dairy.’
- He won the ‘Viewer Choice Best New International Act’ Award at the 2016 BET Awards.
- The album, ‘Stories that Touch’ won him the ‘Album of the Year’ Award at the 2016 City People Entertainment Awards.
- He won the ‘Best Afro Hip-hop Video’ Award for the ‘Karashika’ music video in the 9th Nigeria Music Video Awards.
His Love Life
Falz as of the time of writing this is very much single and does an excellent job at keeping his love life secret. Falz was once rumored to be dating Wizkid’s baby mama in 2014, but when he was asked about this, he said: “I cannot announce one name now, because my Oga at the top might announce something different.”
Falz signed an endorsement deal with MTN in August 2015 ; WebMall – an online shopping company – also in 2015 and he has another endorsement with Nigerian No. 1 car site, cheki.com.ng in April 2015.
Falz has a clothing line with the name ‘Ello Bae’ which he opened after he released his hit song ‘Ello Bae’ in 2015.
