Leonardo DiCaprio (Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio) was born in Los Angeles California, United States on November 11, 1974. His parents were George and Irmelin DiCaprio. George his father is of German and Italian decent. 

Leonardo DiCaprio was named Leonardo after Leonardo da Vinci the Italian Polymath because he first kicked when his pregnant mother was looking at the painting of the Italian polymath in the Uffizi Museum in Florence. His parents who met while at college separated when he was one year old. He went to Seeds Elementary School and later attended John Marshall High School after schooling in the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studìes for four years. He dropped out of high school following his third year, eventually earning his GED (general equivalency diploma).
Leonardo DiCaprio was fascinated when his older stepbrother earned $50,000 for a TV commercial, so he  decided to become an actor.  He started appearing in various commercials at age 14 for Matchbox cars by Mattel, which he considered his first role, and later for Bubble Yum, Kraft Foods and Apple Jacks.

Leonardo DiCaprio went into film production in 2004 with the founding of Appian Way Records which would become his own production company.
