On January 29, 2019, Jussie Smollett reported to the police that he was attacked by two white men who wore red “MAGA” hats. According to his claim, the attackers tied his neck with a noose, poured gasoline all over him, and beat him up while hurling obscenities about his sexual orientation.

In his statement about the events, his attackers knew him from the Fox drama series Empire and constantly yelled that he was “in Trump’s country”.

Over several weeks that followed, the Chicago police department was shocked to discover that the star himself was likely involved in the plans of the attack which was carried out by two brothers who got to know him from being extras on the drama series Empire.

The brothers who carried out the attacks were reportedly paid a sum of $3,500 to carry out the scripted/staged attacks.

On April 30, 2019, executives of Fox announced that Jussie Smollett would not be returning for the sixth season of Empire. Fox reportedly negotiated the option to pay him off for his season 6 contract although they will not be using him for the sixth season of the show.

In other words, Jussie Smollett is getting paid to not work on the sixth season of the Fox drama series, Empire.
