Aubrey Drake Graham aka Drake, is a popular Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, actor and an entrepreneur. Drake came into limelight when one of his high school friends introduced him to his father who was an acting agent. That connection landed him into an acting role in the acclaimed Canadian TV teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation. He became famous after his hit track titled “Replacement Girl” featuring Trey Songz featured on BET Awards.

Drake was born on the 24th of October, 1986 in Toronto Ontario. The name of his father is Dennis Graham who is an African American and a practicing Catholic from Memphis, Tennessee. His father was a drummer by profession and he worked alongside country musician Jerry Lee Lewis. The name of his mother is Sandra Graham. She is an Ashkenazi Jewish Canadian who worked as an English teacher and florist.

The artiste attended a Jewish Day School. It is this school that helped shaped who he is today. When Drake was five years old his parents divorced leaving the artiste in the care of his mother. In 2000, he moved to one of the city’s affluent neighborhoods, Forest Hill where he attended Forest Hill Collegiate Institute.

He later changed  from the institute and then attended Vaughan Road Academy in the city’s multicultural Oakwood–Vaughan neighborhood. He was often bullied in school because of his racial and religious background. He finally dropped out of school because he wanted to focus on his musical career.

That connection landed him an acting role in a show in the the acclaimed Canadian TV teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation. As an actor, he took the role of basketball player star Jimmy Brooks who was physically disabled.

In 2007, the artiste dropped out of school to pursue his true calling which was music. His inspiration to do music came from Jay Z and Clipse. His debut mixtape, Room for Improvement was published in 2006. The follow up mixtape titled Comeback Season was published in 2007. This mixtape had one hit track titled “Replacement Girl” featuring Trey Songz. This track made him famous.

Drake became the first Unsigned Canadian rapper to have his music video featured on BET awards. He then released his third mixtape titled So Far Gone. After this mixtape was released, the artiste became more famous and a lot of record label wanted to sign him.

On the 15th of June, the artiste released his first album titled Thank Me Later which had the following hit songs, “Find Your Love”, “Miss Me”, “Fancy” among others. His success did not end there as he released other albums such as Take Care (2011), Nothing was the Same (2013) and Views in (2016). His two commercial mixtapes are If You’re Reading This It’s Too late (2015), and What a Time to Be Alive (2015).
