Oluwaforjimi Adewale Amu, professionally known as DJ Jimmy Jatt, is a Nigerian disk jockey widely known as one of the most renowned hip-hop Dj’s in Nigeria and Africa at large. DJ Jimmy Jatt was born on the 15th of October in the year 1966 in Lagos Island in Lagos State. He is originally from Ijebu Ode in Ogun State but grew up in Lagos State. He completed his primary and secondary education in Lagos State as well.

He is one among the five children born in his mother’s home to a polygamous family. One of his early role models was his father who was a successful sound equipment dealer, and his music studio at some point was the place of inspiration often visited by Jimmy and his brothers.

His interest in music, therefore, began at a very young age and grew up listening to many different music genres such as soul, rhythm /blues, hip-hop, afrobeat, jazz, high life, Afrojuju and pop. He also collected many of the early rap albums of the 70s and 80s fuelling his desire to become a hip-hop rap artist.

DJ Jimmy Jatt started out as a rapper and was known widely by friends and foes alike as Master J. He made a lot of demos and embarked on a fruitless search for record labels to sign him in. He later switched his stage name to DJing and began to incorporate himself into becoming a professional DJ.

This he did with the help and support of his brothers. Soon they established the studio which they called JATT studios. At some point he changed his stage name to DJ Jimmy Jatt, to honor the hard work and success of his brothers.

The JATT studious, they located in the Odo Street was quite the attraction and central point that led to their success. He became quite popular in his street after he hooted as a DJ at a street carnival titled “Road Block” which involved lyrical rap battles by many upcoming and underground rappers in the area.

In the 1989 and 1990, he was regarded as Africa’s number 1 DJ.

In 2007, he released a mixtape which was titled “The Definition” which was compilations of songs from vocals of well-known artist including Mode 9, Naeto C, 9ice, Rugged Man, ElDee, MI, Sound Sultan and 2Baba amongst many others.

In this mixtape was contained a song titled “Stylee.”This song featured the vocals of artists like 2Baba, Mode 9 and ElaJoe and got nominated twice in the 2007 Edition of Channel O Music Awards.

He remains one of the most famous DJs in Africa and is sought after by many organizations including Coca-Cola, Rothmans, Benson & Hedges, Nigeria Breweries, Globacom, Guinness, etc

DJ Jimmy Jatt has been headlined among the likes of popular international artists including Akon,50 cents, Sean Paul, LL Cool J, Usher, and many others.

He is a highly recognized and revered DJ worldwide, and this has earned him many honorary events such as the Remy Martin VIP party held in October 2013 in honor of his talent and success.

In 2011, he was appointed by Nigeria to be the Country’s ambassador at the Red Bull Music Academy event, which held in Tokyo. He remains the official DJ for the Play Safe National Campus hour in Nigeria. He also hosts a TV programme titled “Jimmy’s Jump off.”
