David Coleman is an Australian politician. A member of the Liberal Party, he was elected to the House of Representatives during the 2013 federal election, occupying the New South Wales seat of Banks. He was enrolled into Saint Thomas à Becket primary school in Lewisham for his primary school education, and afterwards, he joined the Christian Brothers’ High School also in Lewisham at which he completed his schooling. Coleman attended the University of New South Wales after graduating from secondary school. He earned a Bachelor of Arts & Bachelor of Laws from the institution. Additionally, he was the president of the University of New South Wales Student Guild in 1997.

However, his effort was not fruitful as he was unsuccessful in gaining Liberal endorsement. Before getting elected to Parliament, Coleman held a director position at organizations like Australian News Channel Pty Limited (from 2008 to 2013), ninemsn Pty Limited (from 2008 to 2013), and Yellow Brick Road Holdings Limited (from 2011 to 2013). He defeated incumbent Labor member for Banks, Daryl Melham at the 2013 federal election. Before his defeat, Melham had occupied that position for 23 years. Coleman managed a two-party swing of 3.28 points in his favor, and became the first ever non-Labor member to occupy the position since 1949 when the Division of Banks was created.

In December 2017, David Coleman was appointed the Assistant Minister for Finance during the Second Turnbull Ministry. During the August 2018 leadership spills, it was reported that he supported Malcolm Turnbull during the first vote and supported Scott Morrison during the second. Afterwards, he was appointed as Minister for Immigration and Citizenship Multicultural in the First Morrison Ministry. After the government’s re-election in 2019, his title was changed and he became known as the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services & Multicultural Affairs.

In December 2019, Coleman announced that he would be taking an indefinite leave for reasons best known to him, with Alan Tudge replacing him as acting minister.  He formally remained a minister until a reshuffle in December 2020, when he was instead appointed as the Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
