Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo, the Famous Nigerian music Producer, Musician, and Songwriter was born the 6th of January, 1981 in Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria. Cobhams Asuquo is originally from Calabar, Cross River state, Nigeria. He was born blind. He did his education at the Pacelli School for the Blind and Kings College, Lagos.
Cobhams Asuquo- Biography
Cobhams Asuquo’s love for music started as a child, he was always in and out of the choir but never as a singer. He was always in the choir as an Organist and Sang only when necessary. He organized concerts using his mother’s barrels of water as drums, and all the children in his neighborhood would come and have fun. Cobhams Asuquo started music production as a hobby and made his first music at New Wave Production- a recording studio belonging to Charlie Boy.
Start of Career
Starting out music production was not an easy road for Cobhams Asuquo, he had to prove himself a lot of times. Clients either thought he was too young or his visual impairment was a problem to them. He met Faze through Faze’s brother who was his senior in his secondary school; Kings College and later met Maintain’s manager at the studio. Faze and Maintain gave him a chance to produce their songs and from there, the rest is history. He took some break from music to go to the university where he got a degree in Law.
Cobhams Asuquo signed into Sony ATV London as a songwriter in 2005. He worked at Questionmark Entertainment- a Label- as Head of Audio productions for sometime before setting up his recording studio in 2006.
Building CAMP- Cobhams Asuquo Music Production
CAMP- Cobhams Asuquo Music Production was started in 2008. It was a music production and label company that discovered and helped new talents grow. Cobhams signed BEZ Idakulu, a then increasing alternative soul artist whose album won lots of awards internationally. Everyone came to know him more when he produced Asa’s first album; ‘Asa (Asha)’ in 2007 where he also wrote and co-wrote various of the songs in the album including ‘Fire in the Mountain’ and ‘Jailer.’
Cobhams Asuquo has worked with so many artists to produce hit tracks such as ‘Catch Cold’ by Maintain, ‘Ego’ by Djinne, ‘If You Ask Me’ by Omawumi and many more. He has worked with and is still working with Asa, Eldee, Banky W, Sasha P, Timi Dakolo, Waje, Darey Art Alade, Seyi Shay, Korede Bello, BEZ, Flavour, Praiz, Shola Allyson, Mo’Cheddah, Silver Saddih, Omolara, Faze, Chidinma Ekile, Ego, Tiwa Savage and many more. His music genre of choice emanates from listening to great traditional giants such as Dave Grusin, Haruna Isola, and Tchaikovsky. This, therefore, makes him a versatile artist with many of his music tending towards classical jazz.
Cobhams Asuquo has set up music and performed in various international music events such The Harare International Festival of Arts, MTV’s launch of their one hundredth channel- MTV Base Africa- held at Abuja, Nigeria, the French Cultural Center Concert with Angelique Kidjo and Asa sponsored by AFA, Nigeria Week in Paris and others. Cobham has also been involved in setting up and composing of various film scores to either be interpreted by conservatories of music or as stage performances such include Isang Awah’s ‘Bent Arrows,’ Uche Macaulay’s ‘A Voice for Ella’ and Communication for Change’s ‘Bayelsan Silhouettes.’
Cobhams Asuquo also went into singing when he produced his first official single; ‘Ordinary People’ on January 1st of 2014. The single aired on several music stations in Nigeria. The video for the single was later released on the January of the next year. He released a Christmas song in December 2014, which he titled ‘Star of Wonder’. Cobham released another track which he titled ‘ Stronger than Before,’ Morayo sang the song. He also produced another single- in which he featured Falz- titled ‘Boosit.’ Since then he has been releasing many inspirational songs. He founded Vintage Grey Media in 2016. His latest single; ‘One Hit’ was released on the 6th of January, 2018.
Cobhams Asuquo is involved with ONE Campaign- a global humanitarian group. He once visited the white house alongside Somi, Femi Kuti, Omawumi and Dbanj to create awareness on agriculture in Africa. Cobhams was also invited to be a part of the UN Global Goals Campaign where he co-produced the song ‘Tell Everyone’ which featured various African artistes; Sautisol from Kenya, Yemi Alade from Nigeria, Mafikizolo from South Africa and Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania. He also performed on stage live with various international artists including Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Pearl Jam and many more in the Global Citizens Festival at New York Central Park to help promote the UN Global Goals.

Cobhams Asuquo was featured in a full-length interview by CNN Africa voices in December 2011 where he spoke on the advantages of being blind. He stated that even with that being born blind served as a distinct push towards becoming who he is today, which is to some extent responsible for his optimistic attitude especially with the fact that he feels there’s nothing more to lose. He expressed that he has never taken his blindness as a challenge and that he lived a pretty normal life while growing and also now.
Cobhams Asuquo revealed that his mother was very supportive of his career as she had always told him that he would be great one day, so she encouraged him in his path to music.
He got married on the 2nd of December, 2010 to Ojuolape Veronica Olukanni and they a lovely son together.
