Tiwa Savage was born on the 5th of February, 1980 in the Ikeja area of Lagos State of Nigeria. She relocated to the United Kingdom with her parents at the age of eleven years where she had her education and graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Kent. She went on to work at the Royal bank of Scotland.
Tiwa Savage started off her music career in the United Kingdom doing backup singing for artistes like Mary J Blige, Kelly Clarkson, and Emma Bunton. Her backup singing was not just limited for the studio, but then she went on the stage with rapper 50 Cent, Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Destiny’s Child and so on.
She set off her music career on an international level and took it further by signing into the Berklee College of Music whilst still studying and also participated in popular TV reality show called The X Factor for the UK edition and couldn’t make it to the finals.
However, that didn’t deter her from her music career; she graduated and had a professional degree in music which made her a certified musician. Going forward, Tiwa Savage went on to sign up to Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2009 which made her a songwriter for established international artistes like Fantasia, Monica, Mya and others and her collaboration with Fantasia bagged a Grammy nomination in 2012 for the song ‘Collard green’ and ‘Cornbread’ respectively. Tiwa equally lent her vocals to Whitney Houston’s ‘I Look to You’ album in 2009.
Indeed these were remarkable feats for Tiwa Savage. Little wonder, she is trailing the blaze in the music industry both locally and internationally as well. More so, Tiwa’s returning back to Nigeria really gave her the needed breakthrough in the Nigerian music scene when she released her hit song ‘Kele kele Love’ which topped the chart and earned her the fans attention across the globe.
Basically, Tiwa’s love for music grew and so she established her own record label called the 323 Entertainment with her then manager but things fell apart as she went to join Don Jazzy’s Marvin Records where she released many singles collaborating with other artistes signed to the same label with her to release songs like ‘Dorobucci’, ‘Looku Looku’, ‘Adaobi’ among others.
Furthermore, in 2013, she released her first studio album titled ‘Once Upon a Time’ and then went on to release her second album titled ‘R.E.D’ on the 19th of December, 2015.
